PATTERN: Runaround Pants
FABRIC: Cotton Jersey / Cotton spandex knit
TYPE: Boy or Girl
When Bonnie over at Fishsticks Designs contacted little ole me (ok, so my name was on a group email with a bunch of other bloggers) and begged me to join a blog tour (had to Google it too) to roll out her latest pattern and new fabric line from Riley Blake, I was like, well, yeah, um sure, whatever...I'll see if I can squeeze it in (alright, so I had to like jump up and down waving my hand, screaming "pick me, pick me!" to get this gig...).
I'm so glad I "let her talk me into it" (code for: I'm so glad I promised her my third born if she let me join the tour!) though. I really feel like I made out in this deal. One, I got an awesome pattern. Two, yummy scrummy fabric arrived at my door and my husband was not mad because I didn't pay for it (win! - Though he did seem rather skeptical. "Someone sent you this fabric for free? Suuuuure. Where have I heard that story before?")
Ok so I might have squealed a little...
Don't you love it when you get a love letter from your fabric!
Three, I conquered the knits ya-all! Hit it with a one, two, sew-jo boooyah! You see, me and knits, we don't exactly see eye to eye. I prefer fabric that stays PUT when I cut and sew it. And I hate to pin. (Right now Bonnie is like, "Wait, I thought she said she could sew with knits?") But see, see I can sew with knits! I really can!
Helloooo pretty pants!
Where have you been all my life?!?
I chose to do the Runaround Pants for my part of the blog tour. Strange choice for my dress wearing girl but she loves PJ pants so I thought maybe she'll be more inclined to wears these. I was really drawn to the ability to customize the pants because pants are pants are pants, right? There is only so much you can do with them. The Runaround pattern is great because you can make it as detailed or minimal as you want. I chose different fabrics for the pocket and a little bird detail, just cause I could :)
"If you like it then you better put a bird on it..."
Remember how I said I don't sew with knits. These pants may have cured me. The combo of a great pattern mixed with awesome quality fabric made for a really good sewing experience. Everything went together perfectly, no stretching or making it fit required. I did use the pins (after tossing my sewing room to find them!). I guess sometimes they are just a necessity. Sigh.
Want to know my favorite thing about these pants, the unfinished edges! For someone who hates to hem and basically make things look neat and tidy, this style is perfect for me! I did however hem the bottom edges of the pant legs. This move was odd for me because I usually use every trick I can to get out of hemming. Must have had a bad taco that night because I really don't know why I did it...
Want to know my least favorite thing about these pants? The fact that they don't come in a womans' size 8. ;)
The fit is a little loose on BP (thus a little baggy in the crotch - gangsta style!) but she's really skinny and just 5 so the fit will probably be perfect on your average 5 year old. She does love them though. She says they are so soft and so comfy. A plus is that they'll still fit next year. Want to see America's Next Top Model (over my dead body!)? I told her to be serious becasue she was being goofy and I got these...
Boy oh boy.
Can I talk real quick about the fabric (then you can get on to entering the GIVEAWAY!)? If you like fabrics of the stretchy variety, you need some of this. So, so, so, so (no really, SO!) soft and the colors are beautiful. We got to pick what colors we wanted and yup, I'll take one of each please. Go drool over them...I'll wait...While you're gone I'll show you some of the things you can do in these pants...
You can pose in these pants..
You can JUMP in these pants...
You can make silly faces in these pants!
And you can get photo-bombed by an attention hogging 2 year old in these pants...
So I'd give this pattern from Fishsticks Designs an A+. It's quick and easy. It is wearable and kid friendly. Those things make it a winner in my book. And now, who wants to win a copy of the "Runaround Pants" Pattern? I've got one to giveaway to one lucky person! Ready, go!
